Our Three Key Questions

Where do you want your business to be in five years?

Five years is a good time frame for many business owners to set their “long” term goals. In this quickly changing world it is on the horizon but not so far away that we cannot “see” it. For this reason Peacock Business Growth likes to start at this point.

For some people it is better to have a longer term view and also to have a BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal). Ten and 20 years visions help see us through the natural ups and downs of this dynamic world that changes frequently. We are very much in favour of the longer term perspective. Especially since the average “overnight success” took 15 years to get there. However we like to start our discussions on where you want to be in five years.

Then setting one year goals and monthly goals within that.

Goals should be SMART goals:
S Specific
M Measurable
A Achievable
R Results focused
T Time bound.

Considering your strengths and weaknesses is important. Considering what the opposition is doing is important. But a purposeful direction, with persistence, for your business overrides many other considerations.

So, where do you want your business to be in five years?

What needs to happen to get it there?

There are as many answers to this as there are businesses.

At Peacock Business Growth we bespoke every solution for growth. We are not into cookie-cutter solutions.

We will work through with you to form strategies and action plans considering the following:
What you are doing at the moment;
What is working (and not working);
If any of this worth developing and improving;
Product range – add and/or delete products;
Margins on each product and ease or difficulty of supply;
Staff training – sales, products, technical;
Products / services to be sold or marketed – or both?
Methods of doing each of these;
Cooperation with another business that works with similar people but does not compete
Website;
Social media; ….. …. ….

Then we will develop a plan together to grow your turnover.

(For some the answer may not be more marketing. For an over-stressed business manager or owner it may be better systems and organisation, or learning how to delegate to a developing management team. Peacock Business Growth can introduce you to people who specialise in this. Once these are put in place, we can then work with you to grow your turnover. The goal is always for more income, more time for yourself and a more relaxed life-style. These are not necessarily an oxymoron and it does not normally come smoothly - but it is always worth working towards).

So, what needs to happen to get your business where you want it to be?

What is Stopping You?

Because of the size of most New Zealand businesses it is impossible to have all skills inhouse. Most businesses rightly focus on and are skilled in their field. Accountants are knowledgeable in accounting and tax law, insurance brokers are skilled with insurance, engineers with engineering, mechanics know how to maintain your car … and so on.
Because of the size of many New Zealand businesses it is impossible to have all skills inhouse. New Zealand is fortunate to have a network of people who provide these skills and who specialise in their field. We can use part-time contract bookkeepers, accountants, HR people, lawyers etc.

You can also use Peacock Business Growth as your part-time contract marketing manager. You provide the budget. We will work within that to develop a plan and then action it in a similar manner to a marketing manager of a larger business.

So, what can Peacock Business Growth do to get you more clients?

Our 3 Core Services

Picture
Contract Marketing Manager

Many New Zealand businesses are good at what they do. However, the owner or manager is frequently stretched as there’s so much to do and they try to do it all. It’s natural to focus on the things you’re good at (which is often the core function of the business.) The owner of an engineering business spends most time on engineering; the owner of an accounting business spends most time on their clients’ accounts, the salon owner spends most of their time cutting and styling hair.

Some businesses like to do their own marketing and selling – and that’s fine with us. We can work through different options with you and help develop your ideas into action plans.

Sales Training and Coaching

Most companies train their sales people, often in a classroom situation. Much of this training is good, but often there’s no follow-up to ensure it becomes embedded into everyday habits. Because people learn with spaced repetition, following up on good training sessions will increase the effectiveness of your sales training.
